AAPA Convention Keynoter To Focus On Sustainable Transport Solutions

‘Together Apart’ is theme of port association’s 2020 virtual annual conference

Among the four keynote presenters taking center stage at the 2020 Annual Convention and Expo of the American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) – the unified and recognized voice of seaports in the Americas – will be Volvo Trucks North America President Peter Voorhoeve.

“I’m looking forward to discussing our rapidly changing industry and how Volvo Trucks is responding to the need for sustainable freight movement,” said Mr. Voorhoeve. “Even in the unprecedented times we live in today, the forward march of innovative transportation technology cannot stop. That’s why this virtual AAPA 2020 convention is so important. It keeps us connected, it keeps us communicating, and it keeps us progressing toward the future … a progress where all stakeholders need to be onboard and working together in order to achieve long-term sustainable end-to-end transport solutions.”

Mr. Voorhoeve’s presentation, Achieving Sustainable Freight Movement: Volvo Trucks driving the path to greater electrification, will underline the importance and necessity of a broad and aligned collaboration of stakeholders joining forces to make the shift to sustainable freight movement both possible and successful.

In his address, Mr. Voorhoeve will highlight the dedication that Volvo Trucks has to advance the use and effectiveness of electromobility, which is about enabling the commercialization of battery electric vehicle technology and making electric trucks a reality. He will showcase the Volvo LIGHTS project in California that, he says, brings a unique and innovative end-to-end approach to the introduction of electromobility in North America.

Since 2018, Mr. Voorhoeve has led Volvo Trucks North America, part of the Volvo Group – one of the world’s leading manufacturers of trucks, buses, construction equipment and marine and industrial engines.  Previously, he led Volvo Group Australia and held several senior management positions in the areas of aftermarket support, supply chain management and parts logistics during his nearly 20 years with the company.

Originally slated for Québec City, QC, Canada, AAPA’s 109th annual conference, renamed Together Apart, will now be an exclusive, virtual experience.

The three-day business program, hosted in partnership with AAPA’s Diamond sponsor – Port Québec – features a robust slate of keynote speakers and subject matter experts focusing on topics ranging from international trade and tourism, to import tariff challenges and the U.S. elections in November. The full calendar of events is available here and on the AAPA website.
