AAPA Chairman Bernard S. Groseclose, Jr. (who is also president/CEO of the South Carolina State Ports Authority) and AAPA President Kurt Nagle will present engraved plaques to representatives of:
In addition, 26 ports will receive recognition for a total of 66 winning entries in AAPA’s 40th annual Communications Awards Program. Sixteen engraved plaques will be presented to representatives of 11 ports that won Awards of Excellence, while 22 ports will receive a total of 33 Certificates of Merit for their winning communications program submissions. An additional 17 Honorable Mention awards will be handed out to 13 ports that submitted entries in this year’s AAPA’s Communications Awards Program.

Environmental Improvement Awards
Since 1963, AAPA’s Harbors, Navigation and Environment Committee has administered the Environmental Improvement Awards to highlight activities at ports which benefit the environment. The Committee considers four project award categories: Environmental Enhancement, Mitigation, Community/Public Involvement and Comprehensive Environmental Management. There was no 2006 winner in the Community/Public Involvement category. Winners in the other three categories this year are:

Communications Awards
For four decades, AAPA’s annual Communications Awards Program has recognized excellence in the products and services which ports produce to meet their public relations outreach and marketing goals.
The winner of the 2006 Dan Maynard Communications Award for Overall Program Excellence is the Port of Tacoma, which received Awards of Excellence in four categories – Newsletters, Periodicals (Magazines), Promotional Literature and Videos – and Honorable Mentions in two categories – Annual Reports and Special Events. In addition to the Overall Program Excellence award, AAPA annually recognizes the communications programs of participating member ports with Awards of Excellence, Awards of Merit and Honorable Mentions. This year, participating ports won the following AAPA communications awards in the categories indicated:
