The FAST Act enacted AAPA’s top freight policies, such as providing dedicated funding for freight projects, including ports in the planning process and providing formula funds dedicated to freight projects. Congress provided $11 billion in new money for freight and policy and industry recommendations based on AAPA’s State of Freight report.

Overall was $6.3 billion in freight formula funding will help states develop comprehensive state freight plans that include port authorities. Additionally, $4.5 billion in funding for the discretionary grant program for nationally and regionally significant freight and highway projects, $500 million of which is for multimodal projects, will provide the resources for larger corridor projects.
