Port 101 (Port Orientation and Readiness Training 101)

This PPM project provides a framework to establish, implement, maintain, and continually improve a Port Orientation and Readiness Training (PORT) 101 for new hires. Based on the ISO 9001 International Standard, the framework allows a port to tailor the PORT 101 to their needs to support its goals by educating its workforce on key topics that help them succeed. It systematically guides the reader from high-level decisions, including determining a mission statement and the quality policy and objectives, to practical elements of the application including defining the processes, assignment of responsibilities, and resources necessary to achieve success. It ends with adhering to a philosophy of continuous improvement. Additionally, the PPM project contains various resources and templates to aid through the process, including results from a national survey of ports regarding training programs, a list of best practices, an Instructor’s Teaching Guide, and a New Hire Satisfaction Survey.
