This webinar, offered by AAPA's Facilities Engineering Committee, analized how large vessels moving in harbors generate surge effects can be detrimental to a wide range of activities within diverse port settings. The past 20 years has seen significant advancement in capabilities to predict and mitigate these effects, which only continue to grow along with the sizes of modern vessels. This presentation provided an overview of passing ship effects, history and status of numerical modeling, recent full-scale model validations at Port Canaveral, FL, and surge evaluations and mitigation efforts for a wide variety of harbor development activities.
