For the Montreal Port Authority (MPA), open innovation is a differentiator and a competitive advantage in the maritime sector. The MPA, which administers the Port of Montreal, has produced a Digital Twin of the port’s territory and infrastructures as part of its development strategy focused on innovation and visionary technologies. The Digital Twin is an information technology tool used for infrastructure planning and optimization, training of security and fire prevention staff, and enhanced communications with the community, clients and potential clients.
AWARD OF DISTINCTION – Port of Long Beach, Pilot Slips Application (click here to view award entry)
The Pilot Slips Application is a process improvement to Port of Long Beach (POLB) operations for enhanced data flow. The online and secure computer website application allows Port staff from multiple Port divisions/departments and locations to electronically search and review the Ship Pilot activities at the Port of Long Beach and related ship moves at the Port of Los Angeles. The replaced process was paper-based, required manual pickup and delivery of paper slips, and could only be distributed by typing the slip information into an e-mail or Excel spreadsheet.
AWARD OF MERIT – Port of Long Beach, Temporary Berth Assignments (click here to view award entry)
Temporary Berth Assignment (TBA) toolset is a process improvement worl<flow designed to short term berth assignments within the Port of Long Beach (POLB). The application allows real-time entry of the exact location in the Port of Long Beach's enterprise GIS viewer for timeline of the a signed area, contract details, and associated documents. The information can be viewed using time slider for past, present and future assignments to provide time based availability of spaces and planned activities. This toolset replaces a manual email/spreadsheet based process and did not provide ready access to the information outside of the individuals responsible for manual assignment management.
